Rebecca Riggs-Bennett (she/they) is an Anglo-Australian artist, award-winning sound designer, music producer and emerging curator based in Boorloo/Perth on Whadjuk country. She works with sound as an immersive medium — one that transmits meaning, transports audiences, and transforms environments in real time. Her interdisciplinary, collaborative and cross-form practice is informed by the social, ecological and historical contexts she encounters, resulting in intimate and considered sonic experiences that manifest as performances, installations and participatory artworks. Rebecca creates in socially-engaged ways: embracing people, place, site, history, memory, feeling, conversation and open-ended questions to ground and realise her work.
In the span of 10 years, Rebecca has contributed to over to 50 projects across WA, SA, VIC and NSW, weaving her artistry, music and sonic practice into live performances, outdoor and participatory artworks, installations, short films, theatre productions, galleries and museums. She has presented work with prominent arts organisations such as Fremantle Biennale, BighART, Vitalstatistix, Performance Space, Black Swan State Theatre Company and Barking Gecko Arts. Rebecca was recently awarded Outstanding Sound Design at the Performing Arts WA Awards in both 2026 for The 7 Stages of Grieving with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, and in 2025 for Up There (Walyalup) in collaboration with Up There Collective. Under their music artist alias Elsewhere/Rebecca, her debut ambient electronic album, With Me, We Walk, funded by Healthway, was independently released in 2020 as a digital participatory headphone experience over 3 days to connect with isolated listeners due to the pandemic. As a result, Elsewhere/Rebecca was nominated Best Electronic Producer as part of West Australian Music (WAM) Awards 2021. Rebecca is the child of two theatre-makers and grew up touring around the UK and Europe in a puppetry and visual theatre company, trying to get their hands on the sound desk at every opportunity. They formally began their practice in the summer of 2016, when they were invited to produce music for a dance production, and everything clicked into place.
