Rebecca Riggs-Bennett (Elsewhere/Rebecca) is a theatrical sound and spoken word artist, electronic music producer, composer, sound designer and director based in Boorloo (Perth). Her practice is interdisciplinary, engaged with community, and branches across and between performance, installation and live music. She works with sound as a dramaturgical device that facilitates narratives, and spotlights the audience experience by generating immersive, interactive and participatory art works. Rebecca works with field recordings, audio interviews, archival audio, vocals and electronic music to compose her designs. Since studying electronic music at SAE Institute, Rebecca has presented projects, worked on projects and taken up residencies/labs with Perth Festival, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Black Swan State Theatre Company, The Blue Room Theatre, pvi collective, DADAA Fremantle, Cool Change Contemporary, WA Youth Theatre Company, Riptide Youth Theatre Company, Awesome Festival, Kickstart Festival, Arts House (VIC), SIGNAL Arts (VIC) Crack Theatre Festival (NSW) and Glastonbury Festival (UK). Recent credits include composer/sound designer for Whale Fall at Perth Festival 2021, and composer/sound designer for Playthings for Black Swan State Theatre Company 2021 (which won The Blue Room Theatre's Members Choice Award in 2019). Rebecca has been mentored by Kingsley Reeve, Rachael Dease, Thembi Soddell, Elise Reitze, Steve Bull, Jule Japhet Chiari and Claire "Furchick" Pannell. In 2020, Rebecca's solo music project Elsewhere/Rebecca released a debut album, With Me, We Walk as an interactive headphone experience. The album also released three corresponding music videos and was featured by RTRFM and Seesaw Arts Magazine. Elsewhere/Rebecca was recently been nominated for a 2021 West Australian Music award under Best Electronic Producer. |
Rebecca is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Performing Arts, majoring in Practice Transition, at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Rebecca also works as a Facilitator and is integrating facilitation throughout her approach to creative projects.
