The Table |
No Fixed Address, DADAA Fremantle Gallery
29th November 2019 - 25th January 2020 |
The Table is an interactive sound installation made up of raw audio recordings directly taken from the recreation room of St Pat’s. Featuring an amplified pool table at its centre, The Table is a glimpse into the atmosphere of the room that sits at the heart of St Pat’s, a space that is both social and playful towards those that inhabit it. Over a period of Thursday mornings spent observing, recording and conversing, the artist has found that the room’s pool table exists as a symbol of comfort, and the room exudes a sense of sanctuary. It’s easy to encounter a feeling of familiarity, particularly within a game of pool, and the recreation room is a key component in the thriving and supportive community that is St Pat’s. The Table is an invitation for the public to engage in a game of pool. Striking a billiard ball with a cue activates a soundscape immersing audiences in the atmosphere of the recreation room. Taking up themes of resilience, adaptation and displacement, No Fixed Address is a collaborative project between DADAA, Perth contemporary artists, filmmakers and the St Pat’s community, based in Fremantle’s East End.
